By now, many of you have heard the story of Jamie Leigh Jones, a young employee of a Halliburton subsidiary called KBR who became a victim of rape while working in Iraq. Because her employment contract included a Forced Arbitration clause, Halliburton is adding insult to injury by trying to keep her story out of a court room and prevent her from seeking justice. As you consider the conference report for H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, I am asking for your support of S.A. 2588 – sponsored by Senator Al Franken and co-sponsored by Senator Mary Landrieu.  This amendment would bar forced arbitration for employees of Defense contractors who have been the victims of sexual assault or discrimination.

When Jamie Leigh Jones, an employee of Halliburton subsidiary KBR became a victim of rape and discrimination while working in Iraq, she was locked in a shipping container and told she would lose her job if she sought medical treatment.  KBR is trying to force her into arbitration and deny her her day in court.  This amendment would bar defense contractors from imposing forced arbitration clauses on their employees for Title VII violations and sexual-assault claims as a condition of receiving federal funds.

Please support S.A. 2588 to H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act.
